Standards ISO are increasingly oriented towards sharing economy to underline the global trend to support a strategic decision-making process for a better future.

On the other hand, the ongoing war teaches us that commerce is increasingly globalized and country specific issues, in a short time, turn into global issues.

In a word which is going in this direction, it is essential to maintain protocols, common measurements and objectives shared.

It is precisely in this scenario that international standards come into play!

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS?

Assuming that not only goods but also services are exchanged, like streaming, digitalisation, financial management, it is clear that there is a massive trade flow across bounderies.

But at the same time, also the attention to social and environmental responsibility grows, so much that companies try to find 0 (zero) km suppliers to avoid pollution and energy problems.

It is therefore necessary to find a point of agreement: to find different alternatives to international trade, but through common rules in order to limit the environmental impact.

These common rules can be respected using standards ISO!

HOW DOES SHARING ECONOMY FIT IN THIS CONTEXT?

Some of the greater opportunities and challenges derive from sharing economy.
Also known as gig economy or peer-to-peer economy, it is a system where private stakeholders directly share goods and services, generally via Internet.

As economic model, it has the potential to make a more efficient use of resources, because it bypass the traditional phases in the chain. There are already thousands of digital platforms, like Uber and Airbnb, dedicated to sharing economy while others emerge every year.

ISO is monitoring these trends and hosts a panel dedicated to sharing economy where ad hoc standards will be created to ensure that this new business model does not allow exploitation of workers and environment.
